- Shark Lagoon
The Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific is very proud of its Shark Lagoon or 'touch pool' where visitors of the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific can touch many fish including sharks.
- Sharks
The Long Beach Aquarium has no shortage of sharks. There seems to be more sharks here than at any other aquariums. You can even touch some of the sharks. At the Long Beach Aquarium, you can touch small sharks such as those shown below.
- Baby Shark
The gender of a baby shark can be spotted by finding the claspers. All male sharks have two claspers located on their underside. Claspers are rod like structures used to transfer sperms from male sharks to female sharks.
Brittle Star
A brittle star scientific name is ophiothrix spiculata. Brittle stars are echinoderms, closely related to sea stars. Brittle Stars crawl across the sea floor using their flexible arms as "legs".
Seal
A Seal (or Pinniped) is a large marine mammal. Seals are sleek bodied and rather large. The body of a seal is well adapted to the aquatic habitat which they spend most of their lives. All seals are carnivorous, eating fish, shellfish, squid, and other ocean life.
Sea Urchin
Sea urchins are spiny ocean life. The shell of a sea urchin, which biologists call the test, is globular in shape, and covered with spines.
Water Filtration Systems
Most of the Long Beach aquarium water supply is delivered to the Long Beach aquarium by barge or truck. The water is collected about 5 miles off shore and undergo a thorough treatment process at the Long Beach aquarium to ensure purity.
- Sand Filtration
Sand filtration is a mechanical process that removes particulate suspended in exhibit water. Sand filters also contain beneficial bacteria which perform biological filtration by feeding on organic waste.
From Sea to Shining sea
From sea to shining sea is an interactive paining at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. From sea to shining sea painting is for the celebration of marine sanctuaries in the Northern Pacific Gallery of the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific.
Long Beach Aquarium Gift Shops
Since the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific is quite small, there aren't that many Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific gift shops. At the entrance of the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, there is the main gift shop.
Whale Watching
Whale watching is one of the core attractions of Long Beach California. Every year during the whale watch season, next to the Long Beach aquarium of the Pacific sit whale watching boats ready to go on whale watch tours.
